More than 100 million iOS 6 updates - Know Your Cell

Apple announced that it has seen over 100 million iOS devices update to iOS 6 in less than a week.

Apple released iOS 6 to the general public Sept. 19 and it is available for the iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, new iPad, iPad 2, the previous iPod touch and it launched on the iPhone 5 and the latest iPod touch. We've broken down the top iOS 6 features here?but the latest update includes built-in Facebook integration, improved Siri, FaceTime over cellular capabilities and more.?

This 100 million iOS 6 update figure is especially impressive when you compare it to the competiton. It appear as if a quarter of iOS users are on the latest version of the software whereas only 1.2 percent of Android users are using Android Jelly Bean. If you include Android Ice Cream Sandwich, 22.1 percent of Android users are on the latest or second-latest version.?

Apple has a few advantages over Google when it comes to updating software, as the company has direct control over when and how its updates get released. For the most part, if you had a compatible device on Sept. 19, you could get iOS 6 if you wanted to.?

It's a different story with Google and Android updates, as the search giant has multiple layers of abstraction to deal with. When it releases an update like Jelly Bean, it has to wait for handset makers to test it, customize it for their own proprietary user interface and then wait for carriers to approve the update for their networks.?
